An engineer, still endlessly curious.

I started writing code in 2001 at a regional TV station in Brazil — small PHP sites built with a dial-up modem and far too much enthusiasm. From there it was lab-analysis software, embedded firmware, e-commerce, and eventually a one-way ticket to Sydney in 2010.

My favourite work sits between the whiteboard and the deploy log: designing the solution, then building it, and owning both ends. Architecture, system design, and the engineering that turns the design into something running in production — I don't separate them, and clients hire me precisely because they don't have to. The projects I'm proudest of are that kind of work: a clinical programming application for an implantable medical device, a telemetry platform for underground mining machines on Azure IoT, and the public-health work I'm still doing today — a statewide database, a content management system, and a state-wide medicines formulary.

Since 2022 I've been running a small consulting practice called Bertolossi Consulting Pty Ltd. It's just me. That lets me pick the projects, work directly with the people who matter, and keep the surface area small enough that the work stays interesting.

These days I'm spending most of my brain on AI agents — daily-driving them on real client work, building small experiments on the side, and writing down what I learn in the writing below. The combination of twenty-five years of system-shaped thinking and modern AI tooling is, so far, the most fun I've had at this job in a decade.
